Rowlett, TX Sedation Dentistry Helps Children Relax at the Dentist

At Rowlett Dental Kids, Dr. Tera Pollock loves welcoming patients of all ages, as well as special needs children. While she works hard to create a kind and comfortable atmosphere where your son or daughter can always feel relaxed, our team understands that nervousness, fear, the inability to sit still, and other circumstances may make the act of performing effective, safe dental care difficult. That’s why we offer sedation dentistry as a helpful aid that assists your loved ones in remaining calm and at ease throughout the course of treatment.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that’s safe for all ages. Our team will administer it through a mask that fits over the nose; within a few minutes of breathing it in, children should start to feel more comfortable and relaxed. A big benefit of using nitrous oxide is that the effects of the gas wear off just as quickly as they begin once the mask is removed. This means that your son or daughter can return to school or run errands with you after their appointment with virtually no downtime required.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For more severe situations, oral conscious sedation may be the most effective option for helping your child have a smooth treatment experience. Dr. Pollock will administer the oral medicine approximately one hour before the procedure in the office. Your child should become relaxed while still remaining conscious enough to respond to our team. They will need to be escorted home from our office and watched over closely until the effects of the sedation wear off.
