Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Rowlett Dental Kids the right place for my child?

Our practice has to lot to offer your son or daughter, as well as your entire family! As a part of Rowlett Dental Associates, our location is perfect for patients of all ages to schedule comprehensive, convenient appointments. Additionally, Dr. Tera Pollock is a general dentist with well over 20 years of experience working specifically with younger patients, and her approach shows it. She has a talent for helping children from every age group feel genuinely comfortable, giving them plenty of reasons to smile and laugh throughout each and every appointment.

When should my child start attending regular dental appointments?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that children first visit the dentist when the baby teeth start poking through the gum line, or when they’ve reached their first birthday – whichever happens first. However, it’s all right if you’ve already missed that date; it’s never too late for your son or daughter to get a good start on the road towards excellent oral health!

Do you see older kids or adults?

We certainly do. Unlike many other pediatric-minded dentists, Dr. Pollock loves treating tweens and teenagers here at Rowlett Dental Kids – that’s often a difficult time in anyone’s life, and supporting these patients by helping them enjoy a happier, healthier smile can make a world of difference!

Adults are always welcome too! In fact, Rowlett Dental Associates is located in the very same building, which means parents can check themselves in over there while Dr. Pollock handles the younger members of the family.

Is fluoride treatment safe?

Fluoride is perfectly safe as long as it is ingested in a reasonable manner. Fluorosis (the presence of TOO much fluoride) is possible, but this is likely to only result in aesthetic white stains on tooth enamel. During routine checkups, Dr. Pollock will help ensure that your child is receiving the proper amount of fluoride, providing additional applications only when it’s deemed beneficial for their developing oral health.

How do you treat cavities?

Instead of traditional amalgam materials, our team is proud to offer tooth-colored fillings crafted from high-quality composite resin for superior health and aesthetic benefits. This restorative solution is conservative, durable, and safe for your child’s growing smile. Plus, the natural appearance helps them keep smiling with confidence!

I’m worried about my child being able to relax and sit still during their appointment. Can you help?

Of course. Dr. Pollock and the rest of our team will always work closely with young patients to help them feel at ease, but if this approach isn’t enough, sedation dentistry is also available to create a calmer atmosphere. We may recommend nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) or oral conscious sedation, depending on the severity of the patient’s condition and unique needs.

Do you see dental emergencies?

Yes! Dr. Pollock is committed to being there for her patients when they need her most, and she’ll be happy to come in early or stay late when the situation calls for it. Don’t hesitate to contact us if your child is struggling with a significant oral injury and/or pain.
